Croatian Sunset

Had a good week in Croatia. Beautiful coastline, excellent weather. Also went to Mostar in Bosnia. Made me want to read about the recent war in the former Yugoslavia in order to better understand it. I doubt if I ever can really understand why people can do such horrible things to each other.

Looking at this picture in Lightroom and seeing the rear wheel just above the rock, reminded me, rather immodestly, of Henry Cartier-Bresson and the title of one of his books: The Decisive Moment. You'll remember the picture of the man jumping the puddle.
This was taken on a guided walk around the town of Bacup. A local group organises these walks every Sunday. The guides have a fantastic knowledge of the history, archeology and geology of the area. We went through one of the local quarries that is being turned into an 'Adrenaline Sports Centre.'

There were a couple of guys on these trial bikes (no saddle) and the adrenaline must have been flowing through their bodies. They made the most amazing and dangerous jumps. This one was probably the easiest. I should have chosen a faster shutterspeed as there is a bit too much blur for my liking.

Mantar Jantar

In the middle of New Delhi there is an observatory that was built in the 18th century. It was constructed out of bricks and plaster. The ochre red and bright white of the painted plaster must have looked stunning when it was just finished. The general wear and tear and the mould growing on the surface have now given it a different kind of appeal. This monument is definetely worth a visit if you go to Delhi.
